The Bethesda Christian Patriots will face off against the Southmont Mounties at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Bethesda Christian has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bethesda Christian came up short against Clinton Central on Thursday, falling 18-7. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Noah Dininger was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Southmont had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Fountain Central on Friday as they made off with a 16-6 victory. With that win, the Mounties brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Dean McGaughey, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. McGaughey is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Eden Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Southmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Southmont's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Bethesda Christian, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bethesda Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Bethesda Christian's way against Southmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Bethesda Christian made off with a 12-1 win. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mounties turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
