Softball Game Preview: Monrovia Bulldogs vs. Covenant Christian Warriors

The Monrovia Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Covenant Christian Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Monrovia's last matchup with Indianapolis Lutheran could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Friday. The Bulldogs came up short against the Saints, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, while Covenant Christian put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter. The Warriors put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 15-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won eight in a row.

Braylin Boruff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Boruff was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Avery Bennett was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Lilly Armstrong, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Covenant Christian pushed their record up to 12-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Monrovia, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-7.

Monrovia skirted past Covenant Christian 6-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
