With a playoff win on the line, Alcorn Central rose to the challenge on Monday. They skirted past the Kossuth Aggies 3-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Bears, who have now won four matchups in a row.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Alcorn Central got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 12-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13.
Mylee Davis paced Alcorn Central's offense, picking up 18 kills. Davis got some help from Addison Lutz and her 20 assists.
Kossuth's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Clement, who had 15 digs and one assist.
Alcorn Central's win bumped their record up to 24-14-1. As for Kossuth, their loss ended an 11-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 28-5-2.
Coming up, Alcorn Central will head out on the road to challenge Our Lady Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Kossuth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
