Basketball Recap: Laurel Highlands Takes a Loss

Laurel Highlands lost against Sewickley Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Laurel Highlands Mustangs fell 57-50 to Sewickley Academy. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while Sewickley Academy are ranked 139th).

Despite the loss, Laurel Highlands still got an impressive performance from Aiden Black, who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Tyrone Burton, who had 13 points.

Laurel Highlands has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Sewickley Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Laurel Highlands will finish 2024 at home by hosting West Allegheny at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Sewickley Academy and North Allegheny will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sewickley Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully North Allegheny likes a good challenge.
