Softball Recap: Goshen Takes a Loss

Goshen dropped their record down to 7-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Clinton-Massie Falcons by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered against the Falcons since April 28, 2022.

Makayla Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josie Purdy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Macee Stelle, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Clinton-Massie, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch.

On Clinton-Massie's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ava Crombie gave up four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Karley Goodin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Looking ahead, Goshen will head out on the road to square off against Northmont at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Clinton-Massie, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Batavia at 4:30 p.m.
