Softball Recap: Show Low Beats Payson for Their Sixth Straight Win

Show Low hadn't done well against Payson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Longhorns. The victory was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on six straight.

Aspyn Clark was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Gracie Umphress was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addisyn Clark, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Show Low hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payson struck out seven times.

Show Low pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 17.6 runs. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Show Low will challenge Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Gophers at the right time seeing as the Gophers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Payson, they will take on ALA - Ironwood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
