Basketball Recap: Richmond Takes a Loss

Richmond was the 76-62 winner over Phalen Leadership Academy when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Devils took a 72-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcon on Friday. While the Red Devils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Falcon 24-20 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Richmond still got an impressive performance from Ty Phillips, who went 9-for-22 en route to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Phillips is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Treston Bennett, who posted 12 points and seven assists.

Phalen Leadership Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Levi Smith out in front who shot 44% from the field to rack up 20 points along with seven assists and seven boards. Those seven assists gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Raymond Haggard, who went 9-for-13 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds.

Richmond now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Phalen Leadership Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Richmond has already played their next matchup, a 70-44 defeat against Floyd Central on the 6th. As for Phalen Leadership Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 89-68 loss against Indianapolis Washington on the 8th.
