Softball Recap: Irvin Takes a Loss

Irvin was the 28-13 winner over Anthony when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Irvin Rockets came up short against the Anthony Wildcats on Saturday, falling 19-7.

Aleena Flores and Mia Gonzales did some serious damage despite the final result: Flores scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances, while Gonzales scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-1. With that strong performance, Gonzales is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberly De La Torre, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Irvin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Irvin's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Anthony, their record now sits at 2-4.

Irvin wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 20-3 defeat against Clint on the 25th. As for Anthony, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-0 loss against Horizon on the 25th.
