The Polytechnic Panthers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Marshall Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshall took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Polytechnic, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Polytechnic turned things around against Sage Hill on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lightning, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since February 18, 2025.
Caiden Kennedy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Kennedy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Ip, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Mason Slater also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Monrovia, falling 16-3.
Elijah Lain made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Polytechnic, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-5.
Polytechnic couldn't quite get it done against Marshall when the teams last played back in March of 2023 as they fell 9-4. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
