Basketball Recap: Topeka Comes Up Short

Topeka lost against Emporia back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Topeka Trojans came up short against the Emporia Spartans, falling 65-43. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Spartans are ranked 63rd).

Leading Emporia to victory were Nolan Jacob and Rylan Crowell. Jacob went 9 of 16 to rack up 23 points and seven rebounds, while Crowell went 7 for 14 en route to 16 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those 23 points gave Jacob a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jash Rios, who posted eight points.

Topeka is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-12-1. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. As for Emporia, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Coincidentally, Topeka and Emporia will both be playing Manhattan the next time they take the court. Topeka will head out to face Manhattan at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Emporia will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
