Recap: Westfield Mustangs vs. Conroe Tigers
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Westfield Mustangs had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Conroe 58-20 on the road. The result was nothing new for Westfield, who have now won six matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
Taji Atkins was his usual excellent self, rushing for 216 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Atkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Miles Dent was another key contributor, throwing for 217 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes.
The win (which was Westfield's eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 MacArthur and 2-8 Aldine (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.4% over those games). As for Conroe, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Westfield is on the road again on Friday and play against Klein Cain at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games. Conroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
