Softball Recap: Hugoton Comes Up Short

Hugoton extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-5. They lost 13-2 to Colby. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Hugoton couldn't push the score so high this time.

Kinley Howie made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Colby, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3. The result was nothing new for Colby, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Colby's side, Ryler Carter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Carter has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sadie Cheney and Morgan Hills did most of the damage at the plate: Cheney went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Hills went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Cheney has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Flanagin, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

While Hugoton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
