Basketball Game Preview: Ocean Lakes Dolphins vs. Deep Creek Hornets

The Ocean Lakes Dolphins will venture away from home to challenge the Deep Creek Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Deep Creek will be up against a hot Ocean Lakes squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Ocean Lakes claimed a resounding 64-14 victory over Bayside. Given the Dolphins' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Marlins are ranked 328th), the result last Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maddi Fisher and Samara Williams were among the main playmakers for Ocean Lakes as the former posted 12 points and six steals and the latter had 14 points. That's the most points Fisher has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Walls, who put up four points.

Meanwhile, Deep Creek humbled Lakeland with a 69-14 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won six in a row.

Deep Creek's win came from a few key players Ocean Lakes will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alaya Monroe, who scored nine points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Herbert, who earned ten points and five rebounds.

Deep Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only two assists.

Deep Creek pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points over those games. As for Ocean Lakes, their record is now 13-8.

Ocean Lakes was dealt a bruising 63-29 loss at the hands of Deep Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Ocean Lakes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
