Softball Game Preview: Armijo Royals vs. Valley Vikings

The Armijo Royals will square off against the Valley Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Armijo has three straight wins, Valley has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Armijo didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Johnson by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday.

The team relied heavily on Aaliyah Spears, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Gillis, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Spears wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Armijo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Valley's offense. They came up short against Fairfield on Wednesday, falling 20-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Armijo, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
