Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Comets vs. Watseka Warriors

Oakwood is a perfect 4-0 against Watseka since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Comets will host the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Oakwood will be strutting in after a win while Watseka will be coming in after a defeat.

On Friday, Oakwood earned a 6-2 victory over Iroquois West. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.

Cam Harris tossed a big game, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brandt Hobick, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Chase Harrison, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Watseka started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Westville. They came up short against the Tigers on Thursday, falling 10-1. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Watseka saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Shoemaker, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Oakwood's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Watseka, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Watseka's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oakwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Watseka, though, as they've only averaged .295. Will they be able to contain Oakwood's hitters?
