Baseball Recap: Winona Comes Up Short

Winona extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-8. They lost 19-0 to the East Carter Redbirds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 19-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for East Carter, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

For East Carter's part, Bryce Stahl made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Stahl has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Brady Smith was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Cordell Duckett was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Winona will welcome Liberty at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for East Carter, they will head out on the road to take on Kennett at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
