Baseball Recap: Gilroy Comes Up Short

Gilroy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ann Sobrato Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 last Thursday.

Eric Hernandez put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Hernandez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Hilton, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Gilroy is 3-1 when Hilton posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

Gilroy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Ann Sobrato, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2.

Coming up, Gilroy will host Christopher at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ann Sobrato, they are taking a road trip to square off against Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
