Softball Recap: Freeburg Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

While Freeburg's victory against Herrin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Midgets had just enough and edged out the Tigers 2-1 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Midgets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Waeltz Aubrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Freeburg's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Herrin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season.

Freeburg will take on Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Midgets surely won't give up without a fight. Herrin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
