Softball Game Preview: Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans vs. Daniel Boone Trailblazers

The Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans will challenge the Daniel Boone Trailblazers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Morristown-Hamblen West will be strutting in after a win while Daniel Boone will be coming in after a defeat.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Morristown-Hamblen West and Jefferson County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Trojans walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Patriots on Thursday.

Briony Bunsic made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kara Dyke was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Haley Milton, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Morristown-Hamblen West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson County only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, Daniel Boone fell victim to Science Hill and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Hilltoppers, falling 10-0. The Trailblazers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Daniel Boone's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Morristown-Hamblen West, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-5.

Morristown-Hamblen West beat Daniel Boone 4-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Trailblazers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
