Baseball Recap: United Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Homer-Center, United was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 12-7 win over the River Valley Panthers. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Brendan James made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. James was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Kordish, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Dmitri Worthington was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

United now has a winning record of 2-1. As for River Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. United will face off against Ferndale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. United is facing Ferndale at the right time seeing as Ferndale is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for River Valley, they will square off against Greater Johnstown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Greater Johnstown has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.2 runs per game on average), something River Valley will no doubt try to take advantage of.
