Baseball Game Preview: Quitman Wolverines vs. Claiborne Christian Crusaders

Quitman has gone a perfect 7-0 against Claiborne Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Quitman beat Doyline 4-1.

Zach Smudricks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits and racked up 13 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Quitman's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 9-13 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hudson Pullig, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Claiborne Christian gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Union Parish 15-5. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Quitman's record now sits at 12-13. As for Claiborne Christian, their record is now 5-9.

Quitman was able to grind out a solid victory over Claiborne Christian in their previous meeting back in March, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
