Baseball Game Preview: Wahconah Regional Warriors vs. Taconic Thunder

Wahconah Regional hasn't had much luck against Taconic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Warriors will welcome the Thunder at 4:30 p.m. Wahconah Regional will be strutting in after a victory while Taconic will be coming in after a defeat.

Wahconah Regional is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over Amherst-Pelham Regional on Wednesday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on James Rabuse, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, four runs, and two triples. He is becoming a predictor of Wahconah Regional's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dom Marcella, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Wahconah Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Amherst-Pelham Regional only posted a batting average of .158.

Taconic had taken Pope Francis Prep down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Thunder took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals.

Taconic's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-6. As for Wahconah Regional, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-6.

Wahconah Regional skirted past Taconic 2-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunder turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
