Baseball Game Preview: Yonkers Montessori Academy Eagles vs. Yonkers Bulldogs

Yonkers Montessori Academy hasn't had much luck against Yonkers recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will challenge the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m.

Yonkers Montessori Academy is leaving town to face Yonkers after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Eagles lost 13-5 to Gorton on April 2nd. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

Meanwhile, Yonkers came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Sharks with a sharp 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Gio Bello made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Bello was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Yonkers got a massive performance out of Javy Sanchez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Sanchez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Melvin Guzman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Yonkers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Yonkers Montessori Academy might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Yonkers in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
