Preview: Banning Lewis Academy Stallions vs. Rye Thunderbolts
The Banning Lewis Academy Stallions will head out on the road to square off against the Rye Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Banning Lewis Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact Banning Lewis Academy proved on Tuesday. They walked away with a 65-54 victory over Colorado Springs Christian. Given Banning Lewis Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Colorado Springs Christian is ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Banning Lewis Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Oden, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Rye's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Peyton.
Banning Lewis Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Rye, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
Banning Lewis Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Rye in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 49-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banning Lewis Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
