Baseball Game Preview: West Jordan Jaguars vs. Cyprus Pirates

For the second straight game, West Jordan will face off against Cyprus. The Jaguars will square off against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Jordan knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Cyprus likes a good challenge.

West Jordan lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cyprus, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Jaguars were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Pirates on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

West Jordan got a great performance from Payton Smith as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits were Smith's first of the season.

On the hitting side, West Jordan let Jaxon Rowley and Brendan Wood run wild. Rowley scored three runs while going 2-for-5, while Wood scored two runs while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake DiFrancesco, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

West Jordan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in six consecutive contests.

West Jordan's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Cyprus, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-4 record.

Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Jordan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Cyprus struggles in that department as they've averaged .493. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
