Baseball Recap: Covington-Douglas Comes Up Short

Covington-Douglas extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 9-10. They came up short against the Oklahoma Bible Trojans, falling 9-1. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 15-7 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Oklahoma Bible, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-7. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Oklahoma Bible's part, Ben Burrell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Burrell has become a key player for Oklahoma Bible: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Burrell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Berry, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Oklahoma Bible's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jacoby Justus, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Covington-Douglas will host Coyle at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Oklahoma Bible, they will square off against Drummond at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
