Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Creek Coyotes vs. Lecanto Panthers

Cypress Creek is a perfect 4-0 against Lecanto since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cypress Creek Coyotes will venture away from home to square off against the Lecanto Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cypress Creek has three straight wins, Lecanto has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Cypress Creek beats Lecanto with five runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Cypress Creek came out on top against Pasco by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.

Colin McGee tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Cypress Creek: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 1-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Cypress Creek saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Macca, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run marked the first that Macca scored this season. Deacon Turpin was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lecanto and Hernando, and Lecanto kept the tradition alive. Lecanto fell just short of Hernando by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday.

Dylan Czerwinski and Tommy Wilson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Czerwinski got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, while Wilson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Wilson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jayden Russell, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The victory got Cypress Creek back to even at 3-3. As for Lecanto, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Cypress Creek took their win against Lecanto in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 12-0. Does Cypress Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lecanto turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
