Baseball Recap: Prestonsburg Sets Scoring Season-High Against Betsy Layne

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Prestonsburg). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Betsy Layne Bobcats on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blackcats as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Brady Allen made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Prestonsburg is 2-1 when Allen allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-15 otherwise. Allen was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Luke Hall was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Aaron Jarrell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Prestonsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Prestonsburg's win bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Betsy Layne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Prestonsburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against Betsy Layne: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
