Softball Game Preview: Somonauk Bobcats vs. Newark Norsemen

For the second straight game, Somonauk will face off against Newark. The Bobcats will face off against the Norsemen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Somonauk has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Newark will come in with four straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Somonauk's offense. They lost 11-0 to Newark on Tuesday.

For Newark's part, Dottie Wood made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Wood was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylie Carlson, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Kate Bromeland was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Newark kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somonauk only managed three hits.

Somonauk's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Newark, the victory got them back to even at 14-14-2.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Somonauk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Newark struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
