Basketball Recap: Johnson Ferry Christian Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Trent Witte and David Cannon

After flying high against North Georgia HomeSchool last Thursday, Johnson Ferry Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Saints fell 86-80 to the Cornerstone Prep Academy Cougars on Thursday. If the Saints were looking for revenge after losing 67-66 to the Cougars when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

David Cannon and Trent Witte certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Cannon posted 28 points in addition to eight assists and five steals, while Witte dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Witte is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Cooper Shull was another key player, putting up ten points.

Cornerstone Prep Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Stone, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 23 points along with six assists and six boards. Another player making a difference was Seth Bledsoe, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Johnson Ferry Christian Academy's record is now 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Johnson Ferry Christian Academy will square off against Fideles Christian at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cornerstone Prep Academy, they will face off against Excel Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
