Greenwood dropped their record down to 20-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Bowling Green Purples by a score of 5-4. The Gators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Purples apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Bowling Green, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Bowling Green's part, Landon Gilbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gilbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Gilbert wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Schallert, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. James Yarbrough was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

While Greenwood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
