Basketball Recap: Edgewood Mustangs vs. Monrovia Bulldogs
Edgewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 57-45 to the Monrovia Bulldogs. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Allison Bland, who posted 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Crider, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 13 points and eight boards.
Even though they lost, Edgewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monrovia only pulled down five offensive boards.
Monrovia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zoie Walls led the charge by going 6 of 12 en route to 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The match was Walls' third in a row with at least ten points. Emery Newlin was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.
Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Monrovia, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
