Valdosta snaps three-game streak of wins at home

Recap: Valdosta Wildcats vs. Camden County Wildcats

The Valdosta Wildcats were the 61-31 winner over the Camden County Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Valdosta took a 55-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Camden County on Friday. Valdosta has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Loss or not, Valdosta got some senior leadership from Nadia Gardner and Chasity Degale. Gardner scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Degale. dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Gardner is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. JaMya Evans was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Camden County was led to victory by Mahliya Reeder and Taylor Rietveld. Reeder scored 18 points along with eight steals, while Rietveld dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reeder has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Akeelah Bryan, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.

Valdosta's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Camden County, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valdosta won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lowndes at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Lowndes is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game. As for Camden County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colquitt County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Colquitt County is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
