Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Blue Devils vs. St. Francis de Sales Knights

The Springfield Blue Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the St. Francis de Sales Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 26.

Maumee hit Springfield with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils lost 9-1 to the Panthers.

Meanwhile, St. Francis de Sales sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over Perkins on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Julien Coleman looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Hood was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Provaznik, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

St. Francis de Sales was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

St. Francis de Sales' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.
