The Cambridge Springs Devils will venture away from home to take on the Maplewood Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge Springs will be strutting in after a win while Maplewood will be coming in after a defeat.
Cambridge Springs was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Cochranton on Friday. The Devils simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cardinals 41-12. The Devils haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Cambridge Springs relied on the efforts of Brett Kania, who rushed for 137 yards and three TDs on only 12 carries, and Brandon Hoover, who rushed for 121 yards and a pair of scores. Hoover also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making ten total tackles and defending one pass.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cambridge Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 332 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was Cambridge Springs' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Robert Smith, Latavion Fitzpatrick, and Damian Walker, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Maplewood took on Saegertown on Friday. The matchup between the Tigers and the Panthers didn't end well, with the Tigers falling 26-8. The Tigers have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Maplewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mason Potosky rushed for 87 yards and one touchdown. Potosky really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.
Cambridge Springs now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Maplewood, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Cambridge Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 276.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Maplewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 187.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Cambridge Springs' way against Maplewood when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Cambridge Springs made off with a 44-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
