It was a good run, but Mitchell unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. The game between them and the Mountain Heritage Cougars didn't end well, with the Mitchell Mountaineers falling 43-29. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Cougars are ranked 75th).

Layla Worley went supernova for Mountain Heritage, going 7 for 13 on her way to 22 points and seven boards. Worley continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Neill, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Mitchell's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6. As for Mountain Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Mitchell will face off against NCSSM: Morganton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell is facing NCSSM: Morganton at the right time seeing as NCSSM: Morganton is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Mountain Heritage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Madison at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
