Baseball Recap: Avonworth Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Avonworth proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 14) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the DuBois Beavers 7-5. The victory was familiar territory for the Antelopes, who have now won three games in a row.

Jackson Krul tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Metz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Case Latore was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Avonworth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Avonworth's record is now 13-2-1. As for DuBois, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.

Coming up, Avonworth will take on South Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for DuBois, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Hollidaysburg at 4:30 p.m. The Golden Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Beavers surely won't give up without a fight.
