Basketball Game Preview: Evans Eagles vs. Reeves Raiders

Evans is 0-7 against Reeves since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Eagles will challenge the Raiders at 6:20 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Evans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Pickering by a score of 53-41 on Tuesday. Those 53 points were actually the fewest the Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Meanwhile, Reeves strolled past Kinder with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 75-59. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won five in a row.

Evans better keep an eye on Kinley Smith. She was instrumental in Reeves' win, putting up 27 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Those 27 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyleigh Shirley, who posted seven points in addition to 13 boards and four steals.

Reeves smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Evans' victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Reeves, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Evans came up short against Reeves in their previous meeting back in December of 2020, falling 65-59. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
