Basketball Recap: University Takes a Loss

University suffered their closest loss since November 30, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Portola Bulldogs by a score of 59-56. The Trojans have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Isaac Evans, who shot 5-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 41.1% of University's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shervin Moarrefian, who earned 15 points.

Even though they lost, University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Portola, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University has already played their next matchup (against Sage Hill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Portola will square off against Northwood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portola is on a four-game streak of home losses, Northwood a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change.
