Softball Recap: McMinn Central Takes a Loss

McMinn Central had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 10-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Sequoyah Chiefs, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 back in March.

McMinn Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

As for Sequoyah, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Sequoyah's side, Kaliegh Atchley made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Atchley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sequoyah let Shae Alhstrom and Mysterie Shubert run wild. Alhstrom went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Shubert went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That triple was Alhstrom's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of BriAsya Bowman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McMinn Central will welcome Lenoir City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Sequoyah, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against McMinn County at 5:30 p.m.
