Newton had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They strolled past the Wheeler Wildcats with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 61-42. The victory was nothing new for the Rams as they're now sitting on six straight dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newton to victory, but perhaps none more so than London Smith, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. The game was Smith's third in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kandice Shephard, who posted six points along with four steals and three blocks.

Looking ahead, Newton will face off against Holy Innocents Episcopal at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wheeler, they will square off against Berkmar at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
