Baseball Recap: St. Thomas Aquinas Snags 15th Victory in Last 16 Games

It's playoff time, and St. Thomas Aquinas had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Ida Baker Bulldogs on Thursday as they made off with a 17-0 win. Considering the Raiders have won 18 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Julian Diaz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Thomas Aquinas let Jonathan Lopez and Jaden Doverspike run wild. Lopez went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Doverspike went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Doverspike has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nico Sabatino, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

St. Thomas Aquinas lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in ten consecutive matchups.

St. Thomas Aquinas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ida Baker, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-15.

As of now, neither St. Thomas Aquinas nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
