Basketball Recap: Walsh Comes Up Short

If Walsh was riding high fresh off their 65-30 takedown of Aguilar last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Walsh Eagles took a blow against the Stanton County Trojans on Tuesday, falling 65-33. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-8.

Walsh's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hudson Gourley, who went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds, and Cody Malone, who posted seven points in addition to 18 boards and five blocks. Malone has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played.

David Crane continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Stanton County, going 8 for 12 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerardo Robles, who went 6 of 11 en route to 13 points and six boards.

Walsh moved to 4-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Stanton County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Walsh has already played their next match (against Manzanola), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Stanton County will host Sublette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stanton County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
