Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Sandcrabs vs. Sinton Pirates

Calhoun is 0-8 against Sinton since March of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Sandcrabs are taking a road trip to challenge the Pirates at 7:00 p.m.

Calhoun came up short against Rockport-Fulton on Tuesday, falling 7-1. The Sandcrabs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Calhoun got a good showing from Dane Spencer, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Spencer a new career-low.

Meanwhile, Sinton entered their tilt with Cuero on Tuesday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They never let the Gobblers get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.

Dylan Arriaga made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Arriaga wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Clay Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Kash Wood, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Sinton's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Calhoun, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11-1.

Calhoun came up short against Sinton when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Sandcrabs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
