Chavez, regarded as the No. 1 senior prospect in the country by multiple media outlets, dropped 48 in a 74-43 win over Lubbock to up her career total to 4,062 points.
The 48-point performance pushed her past Northwestern assistant
Brittany Johnson, a four-year standout at
Richland County (Olney, Ill.), who finished with 4,031 points.

Chavez should pass Kim Mulkey, the LSU coach and four-time national champion, on Friday. Mulkey scored 4,075 at
Hammond (La.) from 1977-80.

Chavez has dropped 717 points so far as a senior. Monterey has at least 12 more regular-season games scheduled and then playoffs. Based on her scoring average, she has the chance to move into the top 20 in all-time scoring. She scored 1,001 points as a freshman, 1,020 as a sophomore and 1,324 last year.
She has six career 50-point games and has gone over 40 on 25 occasions. Her career high is 57 points during her junior year in an
80-54 win over Plano.
The 5-foot-11 point guard's final six college choices include LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Texas Tech and UCLA.
