5A South Metro Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances in games played on Thursday and Friday (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

A Season-Best Effort from Austyn Modrzewski Leads Mountain Vista over Valor Christian

On Friday, Mountain Vista got the W thanks in part to Austyn Modrzewski playing the best football he has all season. Modrzewski threw for 425 yards and five touchdowns while completing 88% of his passes, and also rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown. The performance once again pushed his average passing yardage north of 300 yards per game (303.8). That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2023.

Modrzewski is probably looking forward to his next game, a road matchup against ThunderRidge on Friday. When Modrzewski last faced the Grizzlies back in September of 2023, he threw for 451 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes.

Jack Blais Turns in Season-Best Effort

Mountain Vista was led to victory by Jack Blais, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Blais rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. The effort marked the most rushing yards he has had since back in November of 2023. He torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 72 yards.

Valor Christian's probably not too fond of Blais given he always seems to get the better of them. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Blais saw the Eagles), he rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Another Game with at Least 106 Rushing Yards from Tyler Meyer

Tyler Meyer produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Rock Canyon to the win on Thursday. Meyer's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 106 rushing yards. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Rock Canyon is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

The win snapped Rock Canyon's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. A feisty cat fight will be fought when Jaguars challenges Fruita Monument at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
