Baseball Recap: Elgin Maroons vs. Bartlett Hawks
Elgin had lost eight straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-15-1 to make it nine. They lost 11-0 to the Bartlett Hawks. The Maroons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
As for Bartlett, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-13-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
For Bartlett's part, Vince Yario made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Yario has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bartlett got a massive performance out of Josh Colaizzi, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. The Hawks are 8-1 when Colaizzi posts two or more runs, but 4-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Austin Daubenmire, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
While Elgin had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
