Recap: Santa Cruz Cardinals vs. Soquel Knights
The Santa Cruz Cardinals can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 67-40 victory over Soquel. Given Santa Cruz's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Soquel is ranked 636th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Santa Cruz got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Demarco Hunter out in front who scored 22 points along with four blocks. Hunter hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Demeke Smith, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Santa Cruz pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Soquel, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Santa Cruz will look to defend their home court on Friday against Scotts Valley. As for Soquel, they will head out on the road to challenge Aptos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Aptos knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Soquel likes a good challenge.
