Basketball Recap: Owen Seavey Key Part of a Team Effort in Pioneers Win

The Pilgrim Academy won the last time they faced Solid Rock Christian School and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers strolled past the Solid Rock Christian School Swordsmen with points to spare, taking the game 59-42. The Pioneers pushed the score to 51-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Swordsmen cut but never quite recovered from.

The Pilgrim Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Owen Seavey led the charge by going 7 of 10 on his way to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Seavey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Parmer, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

The Pilgrim Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Solid Rock Christian School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drew Reese dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Reese is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jordan Patterson was another key player, putting up eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

The Pilgrim Academy's record is now 3-5. As for Solid Rock Christian School, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Pilgrim Academy will welcome Pinelands Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Solid Rock Christian School, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Bethel Baptist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
