Softball Game Preview: Goose Creek Gators vs. Berkeley Stags

Goose Creek is 0-10 against Berkeley since April of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Goose Creek Gators will head out on the road to take on the Berkeley Stags at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Goose Creek is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 12-7 win over Timberland on Friday. Considering the Gators' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Hannah Blystone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.

On the hitting side, Jaionna Wheatley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emery Gandolfo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Berkeley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Silver Foxes. The Stags might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Berkeley pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Goose Creek, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Goose Creek might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Berkeley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Goose Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
